PLCPD participates in regional CRVS partnership meeting
May 6, Bangkok – The Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD), through its advocacy officer Andrei Villamor, participated in the regional civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) partnership meeting that convened various United Nations agencies and stakeholders. Discussions during the partnership meeting highlighted the initiatives aimed at improving CRVS systems across in the region, including the CRVS Decade, which is set to conclude this year.
Organized by United Nations Economic and Social Commission for the Asia Pacific (UN ESCAP) to prepare for the Tenth Meeting of the Regional Steering Group for Civil Registration and Vital Statistics in Asia and the Pacific to be held on May 7-9, the partnership meeting facilitated dynamic exchanges, emphasizing collaborative efforts in shaping the future of CRVS initiatives.
In the Philippines, PLCPD is leading a multi-platform public, media, and legislative advocacy campaign for the pending CRVS bills in both houses of Congress in partnership with the Child Rights Network and Philippine Statistics Authority and with support from the Global Health Advocacy Incubator. The CRVS bills are being championed by congressional leaders such as Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Senate Deputy Minority Leader and PLCPD Chair for Senate Hon. Risa Hontiveros.
