PLCPD & ASOG executive course strengthens capacities of LGU officials, congressional staff, and civil society leaders for JET advocacy
The Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development (PLCPD) and the Ateneo School of Government (ASOG) organized an executive course on just energy transition (JET) entitled, “Pathways to Sustainability: Empowering Leaders to Champion Just Energy Transition.” The executive course, which ran from 29 August to 12 September over four online and two in-person sessions, strengthened the capabilities of local legislators, legislative staff from the House of Representatives, and members of civil society organizations in leading the charge toward a low-carbon future, equipping them with the expertise needed for effective advocacy and policy-making on JET.
The first week highlighted strategies for achieving a low-carbon economy, focusing on how sustainable energy solutions can foster economic growth while addressing the challenges posed by climate change and promoting long-term environmental stewardship.
In the second week, the resource persons shared their expertise on how behavioral economics shapes energy usage patterns, alongside the development of policies and regulatory frameworks.
In the concluding classes, which were conducted in person, emphasis was made on energy financing and stakeholder involvement, as well as on strategies for attracting investment in renewable energy projects while ensuring that the energy transition is fair, inclusive, and sustainable for diverse communities.
The executive course culminated in capstone project presentation, with the groups presenting the following: a draft ordinance on JET, renewable energy-oriented policy mapping, and a project proposal for JET financing.
