Battling big tobacco’s grip in the Philippines
PLCPD and the Child Rights Network stand in solidarity with Health Justice in unveiling the 2022 & 2023 Tobacco Industry Interference Index Country Reports, which were recently launched in Quezon City. The reports highlight the growing threat of tobacco interference in the country and put forward recommendations to battle the industry’s attempts to interfere with public health policies, including those that safeguard the health of Filipino children.
Despite being a signatory to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC), the Philippines faces challenges in adhering to FCTC Article 5.3, which mandates proactive measures to protect health policies from the vested interests of the tobacco industry.
